Owen is a 6-year-old goldendoodle who is in need of a calm, patient owner and a quiet home.  Owen has had a difficult life, and he is not the type of dog who can be adopted to anyone.  He has special needs that any adopter needs to understand.  Owen was adopted via a puppy mill at 6 months, and he is now 6 years old. He has never had any training.  As a result of spending too much of his adult life just crated away, he is very sensitive to busy environments. When Owen gets over-stimulated, he reacts and his reaction is an explosion, however he has never made contact with his teeth on human skin. He does not bite. When he reacts, it can be startling.  So as part of the adoption process, the potential owner will meet with the two trainers who have months of experience with Owen. He is a low confidence, reactive dog that responds when he senses a threat. The issue with Owen is that it isn’t always clear what threat he thinks is happening. As he gets comfortable with his people, Owen settles and then there are far less reactions. He just needs time. Owen loves to be brushed and cuddle. He adores walking on leash, so an owner who likes to walk is imperative for Owen’s happiness.

Owen should not be adopted with children; their energy is just too much for him. The same with other dogs; he is fine walking with them, but in the home, it would be too stressful for him to adjust to dogs (and cats).

Owen is a loving and sweet boy, but he has been through trauma, and it shows in his personality and his behavior; that is why he needs a calm, quiet home, with people that will give him time and patience, affection, and required training.

If you have experience with a skittish, low confidence dog and you have time, love and patience to give to a dog that is so deserving of a real home and a happy life, then please contact
adopt-owen@quincyanimalshelter.org to meet our Owen by appointment only.
Owen’s fee is $375.
