Beatrice – Adopted!

Beatrice is a sweet 9 year old lady looking for a quiet home where she can enjoy the next phase of her life as a pampered indoor cat. Though Beatrice may be shy at first, once you gain her trust and she becomes comfortable in your home, she will reward your patience with endless sweetness and affection. She loves chin and cheek rubs, and will bump her head into your hand when she wants you to keep petting her. As she is still adjusting to life indoors, after years living outside as a stray, loud noises and lots of activity spook her. Her ideal home will have a few cozy hiding places where she can retreat when she gets scared, and a window seat for sleeping in the sun.

Before she came to the shelter, Beatrice lived outside for most of her life. When her caretakers noticed that Beatrice was losing weight, the vet found that she had a large polyp in her throat that was preventing her from eating or grooming. The polyp was successfully removed, along with a smaller polyp in her ear, and the fur on her back was shaved where it had become matted. Beatrice’s throat has healed beautifully and her voracious appetite has allowed her to return to a healthy weight. She rarely turns down crunchy treats or her favorite baby food, which she’ll happily lick right off of your finger. Her fur is growing back as well, mostly black with some touches of deep brown.

Beatrice will make an affectionate companion for a single person or couple who have a quiet home and are willing to give her the time she needs to get comfortable in her new environment. Her ideal person or family will have prior experience with cats. Because she will do best in a quieter home, we recommend that she isn’t adopted into a household with young kids. Beatrice is comfortable around other cats as long as they aren’t confrontational; she can get spooked if another cat shows any signs of aggression. We don’t know how Beatrice would be in a home with dogs.
