Kids That Care!

Thanking the many schools, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, and individuals that make such great efforts for us and collect donations...

Dear QAS, My name is Brianna McCombs. I had my 13th birthday party over the weekend - I did not want any gifts so I asked my friends to donate to the Shelter. I felt like I have everything I need, so why not raise some money - and my Mom donated as well. My Mom and I have donated to QAS in the past as well as adopting "Harry" our pet cat. This is the time of year for giving. People are giving to others, but I feel that we should not forget the animals. These animals are important as well, as they have no home or human to love them. I hope that one day all animals will have a home. I hope what I am donating helps the shelter in any way. Sincerely, Brianna McCombs Quincy, MA Age 13

Volunteer Appreciation Night - November 23rd, 2008 acknowledged the wonderful care giving Volunteers taking care of the homeless cats and dogs every day at the Shelter. Three local boys were also acknowledged for their donations. Their attending the event and telling their fund raising stories made the evening even more special.

Top Photo: Paul (left) and Christopher Donahue of Quincy delivered donations of money, dog and cat food, treats, and toys to the Shelter. They each asked their friends and family to give them QAS Wish List items instead of Birthday presents.

Bottom Photo: Christopher and Paul are joined by Lynda Southerland, Board of Directors, and Alex Preble of Weymouth. Alex earned enough money to purchase several of the special dog beds which are used by the dogs staying at the Shelter by doing chores and fundraising drives.

One afternoon in December 2008, students from Quincy High School pulled up to the Shelter in a pick up truck filled with donated items for the cats and dogs of the Shelter. It seems the high school conducted a donation drive with the Shelter's Wish List as the shopping list and the response was a great success.

Food, toys, litter and bleach were some of the many donated goods as well as $100 in cash which was raised in the school Store through a donation jar program. Gregory Belton, representing the QHS student body and Debbie Purdy, Store Manager were part of the delivery team.

The graphics classes made the posters for the drive that were posted around the school. The Shelter is so grateful for thoughtful gestures like these and the kindness that has been shown to cats and dogs that stay here.

Here are some pictures from our visit to the Quincy Animal Shelter where the Wolverine Den brought in the donations from the Pack. While the Wolverines collected the items and brought them to the Shelter, the entire Cub Scout Pack 42 of St. John's Church donated. The Pack really came through to help.

Two young ladies and their Aunt Joanne visited the Shelter today, April 1st, 2009 to deliver huge bags of dog food, cases of cat food and a basket full of treats. They weren't joking when they told us they wanted to make sure the Shelter's special guests are as comfortable as possible while they wait to go to their forever home. Christina and Aimee Tinney are shown here with a basket filled with dog and cat treats, bowls and receiving blankets for our incoming kittens. Thank You for your kindness and care, ladies!!!

Brownie Troop #4122 of Quincy brought in a wonderful selection of Wish List Items. Troop Leaders: Kerry Duggan and Colleen Farrell
